it's the most wonderful time

A bit of time has passed since my last blog post. A lot has been going on around here and I just couldn't seem to find the time to get to the computer. So for today's post and to get me back in the groove I will share some of the Christmas decorating I have been doing.

Christmas is by far my favorite holiday and it truly is THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! Since last year we were out of town for the holiday's this is the first year I really got to decorate. I have to say a big thank you to my Mom and my Grandma from whom I got almost all of my Christmas decorations. We all seem to have the same taste in decorating so it's great to have them pass down their treasures to me.

I kept the house pretty simple and added Christmas decorations to our already existing ones. This is the table in our entry way. All I did here was add in the red and white flower arrangement and a few glass ornaments.

Here are some decorations that I did on my new Ikea dresser that I got from a great place in Tacoma called Hope Furnishings. They are in association with the NW furniture bank and now have a show room where they sell both new and used furniture. They are a non-profit that then takes the money made by the sales to buy beds and furniture for families in need. We bought two dressers from them this one and one in white as well for our bed room. (I'll be posting that soon!) With our purchase they were able to buy 6 twin size mattresses for kids in need. Check out there website at www.nwfurniturbank.org

Love this idea...I put a string of white lights in a bird cage. Looks so festive.

These are some wine bottles that I painted last year with Krylon's Looking Glass paint. To get the effect of "looking glass" you are supposed to spray in on the inside of glass so that it reflects out but when I did it on the outside of these wine bottles it looked just fine.

And here is the whole dresser. Hope you enjoy so far! I have so much more to share so I will be back on to post soon. Merry Christmas!

quick and simple Sunday project

Happy Sunday!

Today I put together a quick cupboard cork board. This is a great place to post grocery list's, coupons, and notes without cluttering the refrigerator.

Here's a quick step-by-step of how to put this project together.

I bought the cork tiles and scotch mounting squares at Wal-Mart.

I simply stuck one mounting square to each corner and then attached the cork board to the back of the cupboard door.

...and there it is a quick and simple Sunday project!

My First Blog Post

Hello there!
Well, I have tried to start a blog for a while now and just didn't know where to start. So bare with me as I learn the ways of the blogging world. I'm excited to have a place to share my adventures in decorating and DIY projects. My husband and I recently bought our first home and I have to say decorating it has been the best part! Everything seems to always be a work in progress but I will post as I go and I hope you all enjoy!

I will start by sharing with you what has been my favorite project so far, Our Bedroom.
There's so much I love about the bedroom I don't know where to start. How about the end couch? I had been planning on making a tufted bench to match my head board but came across this amazing find at Ross! My Mom and I were just passing through one day and saw the couch with no price tag to be found and looked like a few kids had used it as a jungle gym while their parents were shopping. So I asked a sales associate for some help and she ripped a tag of a dinning room chair next to the couch and said here 100.00...20% for being a bit dirty and here it is cleaned up for $80! By far my best decorating find!
My house is filled with DIY projects but this has to be the best one I have done thus far! With the help of my Dad and a free Saturday we busted out this tufted headboard.  We followed a step by step guide given by addicted2decorating.

This little "&" pillow is a super easy DIY project. I used two cricut cutouts for this project(you could use any shapes you would like). I simply took the shapes and outlined them onto two different patterned fabrics and cut them out. Then used fabric friendly spray glue to adhere both shaped to a white pillow. And there you have it super easy!
This is a view from the bathroom through the hall into into our bedroom. The chandelier is a great find from one of my favorite stores IKEA. The full length mirror is a DIY project that again my Dad helped me with (alot of my bigger DIY projects include my Dad). It's a full length mirror from Home Depot framed with 2x4's and painted white. I would love to have step by step pictures but for this one I wasn't quite thinking about my future blogging.
